The course of 2017 techniques In! Bike racks are all occupied.

The course of 2017 techniques In! Bike racks are all occupied. Lines are a tiny bit longer again to obtain food. Books are being purchased. Tools are put away and summer construction has dwindled down (well, the majority of it). Automobiles filled with boxes of clothing and school materials are now being directed around campus to halls that are residential. Moving carts, student ID cards, and last second trips to Target; folks, its officially Move-In time.
when i was walking the campus to take some images, I was overrun by the power of the campus. Often we forget that I work at a university campus filled with dreamers, innovators, and future leaders that are global. I found myself just using all of it in while smiling at students and parents I have never met before. ( It might have now been only a little weird, but hey, I became caught in a moment). Suddenly, I wished to travel back in time, get back once again to college and experience this all over again!
Yesterday early morning, I saw the look of excitement and awe on the faces of first-year students as these were entering their dorms for the time that is first. Subsequently, we sensed a great quantity of pride and a little bit of hesitation from parents while they struggled to allow their kids go. It is apparent that this moment is a milestone in all of the lives. Students look forward to their next four years at USC and wonder at every one of the possibilities it could bring, while parents feel a sense of accomplishment since they were somewhat accountable to get their kids to college. With all of these feelings swirling on campus, I can realise why there were so many hugs going around.
through the welcome convocation today, speakers stood in front side associated with the incoming course of 2017 and gave suggestions about how to maximize of their own time here at USC. I want to reiterate what Professor Harkness, from the Dornsife College, said during her message: Be present. It is not as easy as it appears however you is a better individual being the sooner you’ll practice it in your own life. To your incoming that is new at USC and present students; I challenge you to be present. Be present in your classes. Be there in your conversations. Be present when you research your options. Be present once you’re meeting people that are new. Be current whenever you write your personal statements. Be present when you study for the AP/IB tests. Be present when you take the tests. Show up whenever you ask her/him out. Be present in conflict. Be contained in brand new challenges. Be contained in all of one’s new experiences and adventures. Take it all in. Be current!

Hey Parents! Listen Up!

Parents play an essential role in the college process that is entire. Often times, parents help subsidize some, if not all, of attending a college or university, and are also always there to inquire of those specific ‘parent’ questions you need to ask the tour guide when the last meningitis outbreak was? that you as students can’t be bothered with (really mom, did)

However, there are instances where parents must take a seat that is back allow their sons and daughters to ask the difficult questions. Here, we now have a compiled a listing of ‘dos and donts’ about parenting throughout the college search and application process:

Do help your son or daughter understand what they want for in a college, reminding them to consider location, size, academic programs, cost/financial help, etc. locating a good fit for your certain wants and needs is more important than the cachet of the name.

Don’t gather all the information for them! Enable them to contact admission counselors and find out the information that is relevant themselves. After all, they will somewhere be in college soon enough, and it’s also important which they learn to navigate the process themselves.

Do encourage your sons and daughters to visit university campuses, and have them on those trips! The way that is best to get acquainted with an university is always to make the trip to campus.

Don’t check your sons and daughters in for campus tours, interviews, receptions, etc. Let them do so! This shows us they are mature and independent.

Do remind your sons and daughters that not getting directly into their first choice school might appear such as the end associated with the globe at that minute, but that things work out and that they’ll be successful wherever they’re going as long as they strive. And, encourage them to transfer if that institution remains at the very top of their list even after enrolling somewhere else.

Don’t fill their applications out for them! We could tell plus it reflects poorly on the applicant. We realize that these are teenagers applying and expect their applications to share their voice that is true and.

So the moral is: find a balance. Realize that your child is all about to attempt a life-changing journey and that beginning to just take ownership of the college application process is a good jumping off point. But, also rest assured if they involve where to send the care package that we are here to answer those tough ‘parent’ questions, even.
